Simple ways to save our earth https://plumjoyful.com/happy-earth-day/ Fri, 22 Apr 2016 08:54:08 +0000 http://plumjoyful.com/?p=720 I love Earth Day. I think everyday should be Earth Day, but for now I will settle for just the one day every year. I even got engaged on Earth Day. It wasn’t planned, it just worked out that way,  but it’s made Earth Day even more special for me. Nature is my church. It is where I go to find peace and balance. Where I go to find inspiration. Where I go to find myself when I’m feeling lost. It has healed me, soothed me, nurtured me and saved me more times than I can count. I would be lost without it. And yet, like most of us, I take it for granted. I take for granted the fact that it will always be there for me. We think we can take what we need from the Earth and it will keep giving and giving endlessly. I wish it were that simple but we know that it’s not. Something has to shift before it’s too late. This planet is AWESOME. We are lucky beyond belief to live here. Maybe one day they will make Mars or some other planet habitable, but I have no interest. I know what we […]

Favorite brands + shops from Babyccino Shop Up https://plumjoyful.com/favorite-baby-brands-babyccino-shop/ https://plumjoyful.com/favorite-baby-brands-babyccino-shop/#comments Fri, 15 Apr 2016 17:23:07 +0000 http://plumjoyful.com/?p=650 The Babyccino Shop Up was this past weekend and it was awesome! I found a bunch of new brands and stores that are in perfect line with the Plum Joyful philosophy of a healthy, vibrant and stylish life. Here is a recap of the wonderful event for those of you who didn’t make it out, and some of my new favorite things for baby. First off the event was held at the spectacular Lombardi House, both in their amazing barn and around the grounds. They had amazing refreshments for everyone in the family. Moon Juice for mama, Incredible Acai breakfast bowls from Amaze Bowls for Papa, and Sprinkles cupcakes for baby Plum ( I didn’t let her have one, but she was perfectly happy with the Organic Guava banana fruit pouch from Happy Baby that they were also giving out). Not to mention a Coolhaus Ice cream truck. Once we were well fueled it was time to shop. Here are the brands/shops that I loved the most and couldn’t get enough of. Kalon Kalon is the company that makes our crib which I absolutely love. It has been a favorite of mine for a while now, and they have these […]

Creating a non-toxic nursery Part One https://plumjoyful.com/creating-a-non-toxic-nursery/ https://plumjoyful.com/creating-a-non-toxic-nursery/#comments Tue, 09 Feb 2016 00:00:31 +0000 http://plumjoyful.com/?p=161   When I got pregnant I set about learning all the ways I could create a non-toxic environment in order to best protect my little one from the allergies and autoimmune issues that I have struggled with most of my life. This led me down a veritable rabbit hole of toxins, pollutants and potential dangers lurking in the most innocent of places, our babies nursery! A study done by the Environmental Working Group found an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants in the umbilical cord blood of newborn babies. These included pesticides, and brominated flame retardants. More specifically, according to the study, of the 287 chemicals found, 180 are known to cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animal tests. I felt like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz but instead of “Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My!” I was chanting “Flame retardants, Phthalates, and BPA Oh shit!”. The good news is that in the end it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I was worried it would be an impossible task and that I would have to […]
