It’s that time again! If you are looking for the best kids clothing, accessories and toys, then you have to come to the Babyccino Shop up event this Sunday April 23 and Monday April 24 at The Springs in downtown! Held once a year in Los Angeles, they feature some of the best children’s lines sourced from all around the world. I went last year and blogged about it HERE and HERE. It was an amazing event and I scored such amazing pieces that my little one is still wearing many of them a year later even though she is SO much bigger. For example, the GREATEST pair of drop crotch patterned pants from Over + Over, have become our new favorite pair of shorts! Or the awesome jumper from Mabo Kids, has become an equally awesome pair of elastic waist drop crotch pants. I know, it’s hard to picture, but here is the jumper from last year to help you visualize. Let’s get dirty

Go eat dirt. No seriously, go eat dirt. We have become a nation of overly sanitized, germ phobic, sterile people and it is harming our health in very serious ways. If you suffer from ANY gut issues ranging from heartburn, GERD or IBS, to more serious conditions like Colitis or Crohn’s disease, then understanding your gut health and the role bacteria plays is absolutely CRITICAL. The same can be said if you suffer from autoimmune disorders, allergies, mood issues such as depression or anxiety, brain fog, headaches or skin issues. Your Gut is the seat of you health. It is the main hub that signals your immune function. We now know that our gut bacteria or microbiome are actually responsible for turning on genes! So for example, if you carry a gene for diabetes, just having the gene does not mean that you will actually get diabetes. There has to be an environmental trigger to activate the gene. Getaway: San Ysidro Ranch, a baby friendly weekend

This is my first wanderlust post. Seeing as I’m the mom of a one year old, I haven’t been doing a lot of wandering lately. So for my birthday I wanted to go away somewhere. My husband (DP) and I hadn’t taken a trip in quite a while. We wanted to take Little Plum with us, since we weren’t ready to be away from her. We also wanted to stay close to home just in case the world imploded when we strayed from our comfort zone and LP’s usual routine. However I also wanted to feel like I was far away on vacation. Since we live in Los Angeles, we opted to go to The San Ysidro Ranch in the Montecito Foothills. It has all the amenities of a luxurious getaway, and it’s only a quick ninety minute drive! Well, full disclosure, by the time we got everything in the car, dropped our dog’s at my parents house, ran back home because we forgot an important item, stopped for snacks and wipes, where we realized we had no gas so another quick stop, only to finally get on the road where LP started screaming because it was time for her to breastfeed […]

Creating a non-toxic nursery Part One

When I got pregnant I set about learning all the ways I could create a non-toxic environment in order to best protect my little one from the allergies and autoimmune issues that I have struggled with most of my life. This led me down a veritable rabbit hole of toxins, pollutants and potential dangers lurking in the most innocent of places, our babies nursery! A study done by the Environmental Working Group found an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants in the umbilical cord blood of newborn babies. These included pesticides, and brominated flame retardants. More specifically, according to the study, of the 287 chemicals found, 180 are known to cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animal tests. I felt like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz but instead of “Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My!” I was chanting “Flame retardants, Phthalates, and BPA Oh shit!”.
